Salient Points of Press Conference of BJP National Spokesperson Dr. Sambit Patra

On May 6–7, 2025, under ‘Operation Sindoor’, India precisely destroyed 9 terrorist camps in Pakistan and POK. This was a historic and decisive strike, the kind that had not occurred in the last 50 years

****************
Today, under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, this impossible task has become possible. Operation Sindoor is not just a military action, but a complete and decisive counterattack of India against terrorism.

****************

‘Operation Sindoor’ penetrated 100 kilometers into Pakistan and eliminated over 100 terrorists. It stands as a symbol of India’s military strength, political will, and unwavering resolve

****************
Operation Sindoor was 100% successful. All our brave pilots flying Rafale jets destroyed the terrorist camps with precision, ensuring that no civilian or military installation was harmed in the process
****************

Earlier, India used to present dossiers as evidence against terrorism, but the New India now takes decisive action. As Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi rightly said, "Wahan se goli chalegi, toh yahan se gola chalega"
****************
When Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi said, "Hum ghar mein ghus ke marenge aur mitti mein mila denge" it was not merely a statement—it is something the entire nation has now seen come true
****************

The Government of India suspended the Indus Water Treaty and established full control over the Jhelum and Chenab rivers, sending a clear message: "Blood and water cannot flow together." This had not been achieved in 50 years, but under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, it was made possible
****************
For the first time in history, a country carried out a precision strike on terrorist camps within just 23 minutes using advanced training. Never before has any nation penetrated a nuclear-armed country and destroyed 20% of its military infrastructure
****************
Even Pakistan’s own clerics and religious leaders did not stand by their government, while India displayed unparalleled unity. The entire nation rallied behind its armed forces, political will, and decisive leadership
****************
Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi personally reached out to leaders of 20 countries to build a united front against Pakistan Sponsored Terrorism —and every single nation extended its support to India
****************
In Operation Sindoor, Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists Yusuf Azhar and Hafiz Mohammad Jameel were eliminated. Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist Mujassir, also known as Abu Jindal, was also killed—his funeral was attended by Pakistan’s Army Chief and Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. This clearly proves that those who nurture terrorism operate hand in hand
****************
During the Pahalgam attack, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi was on an official visit to Saudi Arabia, which he cut short to return to India. Upon his return, Saudi Arabia assured its full support to stand shoulder to shoulder with India in the fight against terrorism

Bharatiya Janata Party National Spokesperson Dr. Sambit Patra addressed a press conference at the party's central office, on Monday. BJP National Spokesperson and MP Dr. Sambit Patra stated that Pakistan, a known sponsor of terrorism, dared to challenge India’s valour and sovereignty through a terror attack on April 22. In response, the Indian Army displayed extraordinary bravery by striking deep into the heart of terror. Commending the valour of the forces, Dr. Patra said the Indian Army not only protected the nation but also delivered a powerful blow to terrorism.

Dr. Patra stated that today’s press conference is a moment filled with pride, as this is no ordinary press conference. Though I am sitting here representing the Bharatiya Janata Party, at the party's head office, I feel that I am speaking not just as a spokesperson of the BJP, not merely as a BJP MP or karyakarta, but as an Indian — as a proud citizen of this nation. The kind of terror demolition, the manner in which terrorism has been wiped out — what we have witnessed across India in the past few days — is truly remarkable. The way India has eliminated terrorist bases in Pakistan through ‘Operation Sindoor’ has sent a strong and decisive message to the entire world — a message of firm resolve against terrorism. India’s armed forces have displayed unparalleled courage. The Bharatiya Janata Party and all of us karyakartas, along with the entire nation, express our heartfelt gratitude to the Indian Army, the Indian Air Force, the Indian Navy, and all the brave soldiers because of whom ‘Operation Sindoor’ has been a success. If we look at it in the true sense, every Indian is aware of ‘Operation Sindoor’, as multiple press conferences have been held about it. Even yesterday, the three DGMO officers jointly addressed the nation and presented all the facts that the country wanted to know.

BJP National Spokesperson Dr. Patra highlighted that on the unfortunate day of April 22nd, 26 people were brutally massacred in Pahalgam. The terrorists behind this heinous act had infiltrated from Pakistan; they were trained by Pakistan and supported by terrorist organisations. Among the victims were 25 Indian citizens and one Nepali national. At that time, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi was on a foreign visit — in Saudi Arabia. He immediately returned to India and listened to the voice of the people. The public, in that moment of grief and anger, made a clear demand: that there must be a strike on terrorism — that we must take revenge. From the soil of Bihar, Prime Minister Modi made a resolute declaration — he gave the nation his word: “I promise you, the desire you have to see a strike against terrorism will be fulfilled. We will avenge the Pahalgam terror attack. We will avenge the death of those 26 people.”  The Prime Minister said that the retaliation would be beyond the imagination of the terrorists — and indeed, the response that followed was far beyond what any terrorist could have imagined. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had declared, “We will strike them by entering their territory and reduce their terror bases to dust.” And that is exactly what happened — under his decisive leadership and with the indomitable courage of our armed forces, the terrorist hideouts were reduced to rubble.

Dr. Patra said that from the 22nd of April to the 7th of May — for nearly 14 days — the entire nation witnessed an atmosphere filled with tension and pressure. There was a growing demand for immediate action, for swift and decisive retaliation. But the response was not impulsive — it was marked by strategic planning, maturity, and deep thinking. Even Pakistan was aware that a strike was imminent. After all, India had previously carried out air strikes and a surgical strike too. Pakistan knew well that this time it wouldn't be spared. Despite all their calculations, they couldn’t anticipate the exact date of the strike. Between the 22nd of April and the 7th of May, non-military actions were taken to weaken Pakistan, and these were carried out by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji and the Indian government.

National Spokesperson Dr. Patra stated that ‘Operation Sindoor’ has both a military and non-military component. One key non-military action was the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty, the 1960 agreement on the Indus River. As you all know, around 90% of Pakistan depends on this water, with nearly 80% of their agriculture relying on it. If this water is cut off, Pakistan's GDP would drop by a quarter. If Pakistan is deprived of this water, its situation would worsen, with their GDP plummeting. It wouldn’t just affect their GDP; power cuts would also become widespread, creating a situation where Pakistan would emerge as a fragile state. The control over the Jhelum and Chenab rivers would now be fully under India's jurisdiction. Just as we are discussing building dams and expanding control over the rivers, Pakistan's condition would be severely impacted. New reservoirs, irrigation, and hydro-power projects will greatly benefit Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, and Haryana. It was once said that water and blood will not flow together, but after 50 years, what was once deemed impossible — stopping the Indus Water Treaty — has been achieved. What was once unthinkable has now become possible. This time, the Attari-Wagah border was also shut down, halting trade between the two countries. The economic repercussions of this will be felt by Pakistan. Additionally, those with Pakistani visas, as well as Pakistani citizens residing in India, were all sent back. No artist or cultural performance from Pakistan can perform in India anymore. Such stringent restrictions have been imposed on Pakistan.

Dr. Patra highlighted that Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji directly engaged with the heads of around 20 countries to discuss how to isolate Pakistan and fight against terrorism. The most significant outcome was that many nations, including two major Islamic world countries Saudi Arabia, UAE, and the USA, supported India in this fight. When the Pahalgam attack occurred, Hon'ble Prime Minister ji was in Saudi Arabia. Upon returning, he was assured by Saudi Arabia that they stood with India. They committed to fighting terrorism shoulder to shoulder with India and isolating Pakistan. Tools that hadn't been used for over 50 years, and areas where India had never ventured were now being used. The preparation for a decisive strike against terrorism culminated in the night of 7th May, 2025. On that night, nine terrorist hideouts, located in PoJK (Pakistan-Occupied Jammu-Kashmir) and Pakistan, were destroyed. ‘Operation Sindoor’ marked a massive milestone, showcasing to the world what India is capable of. Operation Sindoor demonstrated that India is capable of striking any target inside Pakistan, not just along the LOC but also across the international border, with precision, to eliminate the fear of terrorism. The objective of this entire operation needs to be understood. What was the goal? Did we achieve it?

BJP National Spokesperson Dr. Patra stated that the aim of ‘Operation Sindoor’ was clear: to target terrorist hideouts located in remote areas of Pakistan, places where no one had reached before, areas where Pakistani terrorists believed they were safe. Reaching these locations and neutralizing the terrorists was the primary goal. The second objective was to eliminate the terrorists, to neutralize them. The third objective was to destroy these targets, to reduce them to the ground. The fourth objective was to ensure that no civilian was harmed during this operation. The final goal was to avoid attacking any military or defence base of Pakistan, meaning that this was a battle solely against terrorism. Did we achieve our objectives in Operation Sindoor? Yes, the answer is clear. When this attack took place, nine terrorist hideouts were destroyed. Five of them were in PoJK and four were in Pakistan. The most significant thing is that for the first time, India entered Punjab, a strategically important province of Pakistan, and eliminated terrorists there. This is not a small feat by any means. This is a big achievement as far as ‘Operation Sindoor’ is concerned. The hideouts of terrorist groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammad, and Hizbul Mujahideen were destroyed. The entire nation must remember the names of the nine terrorist hideouts. We must remind ourselves of these names and repeat them for the next 100 years.  Whenever terrorism raises its head, we must show these images of what Operation Sindoor, India's armed forces, India's political will, and the people of India have done. The terrorists who attacked Sonmarg on 20th October 2024 and Gulmarg on 24th October 2024 were trained at this very location. The terrorists who carried out the attack on 22nd April 2025 at Pahalgam, killing our civilians, including those who had provided training to the attackers at these centers.

Dr. Patra read out the names of the terrorist hideouts: Sawai Nala Camp, Muzaffarabad, located 30 kilometers from the LOC, was a hideout of Lashkar-e-Taiba and a training center. Syedna Bilal Camp in Muzaffarabad was a training center for Jaish-e-Mohammad. The second camp that was destroyed, was the Gulpur Camp, Kotli located 30 kilometers from the LoC. It was a base for Lashkar-e-Taiba. On April 20, 2023, and June 9, 2024, terrorists from this Gulpur camp were responsible for the attack on the pilgrims' bus, resulting in fatalities. The terrorist hideout in the Gulpur Camp, located in a remote area, was successfully destroyed. Gulpur Camp at Kotli located 30 kilometers from the LoC. The Barnala Camp, located 9 kilometers from the LoC, was eliminated. The Abbas camp in Kotli, 13 kilometers from the LoC, was a fidayeen center of Lashkar-e-Taiba capable of training 15 terrorists at a time. It was destroyed and brought down. Sarjal Campnin Sialkot, located six kilometers from the International Border. In March 2025, four Jammu and Kashmir police officers were martyred by terrorists who had come from the Sarjal Camp. This camp was destroyed. The Mehmoona Joya camp in Sialkot, located 12 to 18 kilometers from the international border, was a major hub for Hizbul Mujahideen. Terrorists from this camp were involved in many attacks in the Kathua and Jammu regions. India successfully demolished this camp as well.

BJP National Spokesperson Dr. Patra stated that Markaz Tayyiba, located in Muridke, 18–25 kilometers from the international border, was the training ground for the terrorists involved in the 2008 Mumbai attacks, including Ajmal Kasab and David Headley. Today, it is a matter of national pride that India’s armed forces, leadership, and its citizens have successfully dismantled this base. Markaz Subhan Allah in Bahawalpur, located nearly 100 kilometers from the international border, was a hub of terrorism. The world never imagined that India's armed forces, Air Force, and political leadership would demonstrate such decisive willpower to strike deep inside enemy territory. Yet, India crossed 100 km into Pakistan and successfully dismantled terror camps. The Indian Air Force destroyed the headquarters of Jaish-e-Mohammad, this is a feat of immense strategic significance. It’s worth noting that even the United States couldn’t send drones into that region, but India went in and struck. This is the ‘New India.’

Dr. Patra stated that ‘Operation Sindoor’ was launched with two clear objectives, first, to dismantle terrorist hideouts, and second, to eliminate terrorists with precision. The operation resulted in the neutralization of over 100 terrorists. Among them was Mudassar Qadian, also known as Abbu Jundal, a key Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative and the head of Markaz-e-Taiba. His death exposed the deep nexus between terror and its state sponsors, as senior Pakistani Army officials, the Army Chief, and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz attended his funeral. The funeral was held on government land, with the presence of numerous high-ranking officials, clearly proving that terrorists and their sponsors are working hand in glove.

BJP National Spokesperson Dr. Patra revealed that Hafiz Mohammad Jameel, a top commander of Jaish-e-Mohammed and the in-charge of Markaz Subhanallah in Bahawalpur, was successfully eliminated. Alongside him, Mohammad Yusuf Azhar, also known as Ustad Ji, a key Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist involved in the IC-814 hijacking and known for conducting weapons training, was also killed. In addition, Khalid, alias Alid or Abbu Akka Khalid, a senior Lashkar-e-Taiba operative, was taken down, further weakening the terror network’s core leadership. A photograph from the funeral clearly shows Abdul Rauf, a Lashkar-e-Taiba commander and a U.S.-designated global terrorist, standing prominently at the front. Positioned right behind him were top officials of the Pakistani establishment, including a Lieutenant General, Major General, Brigadier, the Punjab Inspector General of Police, and even a Member of the Provincial Assembly of Punjab. This visual serves as stark evidence of the deep entanglement between terror networks and state machinery in Pakistan.

Dr. Patra emphasized that the objective of Operation Sindoor was crystal clear: to eradicate terrorist bases, target terrorists with precision, and deliver a strong message against terrorism, a mission in which India succeeded brilliantly. For the first time, the world saw that every inch of Pakistan is within India's reach. Pakistan’s air defense system was rendered ineffective as the operation unfolded using Rafale aircraft. In just 23 minutes, all 9 terrorist camps were destroyed. This swift and precise strike demonstrated India’s capabilities on the global stage. No nation has ever carried out such a precise attack on terrorist camps in such a short span. The key words in the MEA and Indian Army’s press briefing were: controlled, precision, measured, and non-escalatory. One thing was also clearly emphasized in the briefings that the Pahalgam attack was the primary escalation.

National Spokesperson Dr. Patra affirmed that Operation Sindoor was 100% successful, a fact that all of India can proudly claim. The brave pilots who flew with the Rafale aircraft returned safely, having neutralized terrorist camps without causing any harm to civilian or military installations. However, as anticipated, Pakistan retaliated by launching drones and missiles, all of which were destroyed mid-air by India’s advanced air defense system. The most significant achievement came between May 7 and May 9, when India successfully deactivated Lahore’s air defense system. In response to Pakistan's retaliation, India obliterated 11 key Pakistani airbases between May 9 and May 10. These bases included Nur Khan, Rafiq, Murid, Sukkur, Sialkot, Pasrur, Chunian, Sargodha, Skardu, Bhulari, and Jacobabad.

Dr. Patra highlighted the destruction of the Nur Khan Airbase, which provided crucial air-to-air refueling capabilities for Pakistan's air force. Its destruction severely crippled Pakistan's aerial operations. For the first time, a nuclear-armed nation witnessed its airbases being neutralized within its own territory. 20% of Pakistan’s Air Force infrastructure was destroyed. At the Bhulari Airbase, 50 Pakistani Air Force personnel, including Squadron Leader Usman Yusuf, lost their lives. In total, 9 terrorist camps and 11 airbases were destroyed, resulting in the death of over 100 terrorists and more than 50 Pakistani soldiers. Pakistan’s prestige has been shattered in this operation. Unable to bear the blow, Pakistan’s DGMO called on May 10. However, what followed was not a ceasefire, but an “understanding,” meaning any future terrorist attack would automatically nullify this understanding. This time, India struck deep inside Pakistan. Even Pakistan's Maulanas and Mawlawis did not support their government, while India’s unity was extraordinary. The entire nation stood united behind its armed forces, political will, and decisive leadership. Today, Pakistan stands isolated on the global stage. Previously, India provided evidence of terrorism through dossiers, but now, ‘New India’ is taking decisive action. As Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji said, “Waha Se Yadi Goli Aati Hai Toh Yaha Se Gola Jaayega.
