Union Minister of State and Senior BJP Leader Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal’s scathing attack on Akhilesh Yadav for insulting Babasaheb

Union Minister of State and Senior BJP leader Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal told the media at his official residence in New Delhi on Wednesday that SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav has insulted Baba Saheb by associating his picture with Babasaheb Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar for the sake of Dalit vote back. Bharatiya Janata Party strongly condemns his misdeeds. Akhilesh Yadav formed Indi Alliance with Rajiv Gandhi's Congress party, which was staunchly opposed to OBC reservation and which party prevented Babasaheb from reaching Parliament. Therefore, the Dalit community will never support Akhilesh Yadav.

Shri Meghwal, while displaying a poster featuring Akhilesh Yadav and Babasaheb Ambedkar before the media, stated that a poster has surfaced today showing half the face of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and the other half of Akhilesh Yadav. He alleged that Akhilesh Yadav is using such imagery to garner votes from the Dalit community. Akhilesh Yadav is completely misguided, and such actions amount to an insult to Babasaheb. It was the Congress that caused Babasaheb Ambedkar’s defeat in his first Loksabha election in 1952, and again played a role in his loss in the 1953 by-election. Today, Akhilesh stands with the same Congress that once opposed Babasaheb—how, then, can the Dalit community stand with him?

Union Minister of State Shri Meghwal stated that when the issue of reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBC) arose in the country, Akhilesh Yadav and his family members supported it. However, it was Rajiv Gandhi who had strongly opposed OBC reservation. He delivered a lengthy speech on the floor of the Lok Sabha, in which the strongest opposition was directed against OBC reservation. Today, Akhilesh Yadav, by aligning himself with the Congress, is attempting to spread the illusion that he and Babasaheb Ambedkar share the same ideology. This is not only an insult to Babasaheb himself but also a disrespect to his principles and vision. Akhilesh Yadav should recall the events of his tenure as Chief Minister, during which many engineers from the Scheduled Caste community were demoted.

Shri Meghwal stated that during the UPA-2 government, when the issue of reservation in promotions was brought up in the Lok Sabha and a bill was being introduced, it was a Samajwadi Party MP from Nagina who tore up copies of the bill. Now, these same people claim to follow Babasaheb Ambedkar’s ideology—this is a direct insult to him. Akhilesh Yadav leads a dynastic party, whereas Babasaheb was firmly against dynastic politics. There is no ideological alignment between the two. Yet, to mislead the Dalit community, a meeting was organized where a poster was displayed showing Babasaheb and Akhilesh together, with several party officials present.

Union Minister of State Shri Meghwal stated that this poster, this banner, is an insult to Babasaheb. Akhilesh Yadav cannot win the votes of the Dalit community by disrespecting Babasaheb in this manner. In 2024, the Samajwadi Party, in alliance with the Congress, spread the false narrative that the Constitution and reservations were under threat. That illusion was shattered in Haryana, Maharashtra, and even in Delhi. Therefore, today the Bharatiya Janata Party strongly condemns this poster.
