5,500 crore for
1000-1200 MW Power Plant
AES India Private Limited, a subsidiary of the renowned multinational
AES Corporation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the
Chhattisgarh Government to develop 1000-1200 MW coal-fired power plant
in the State at a cost of Rs. 5500 crores. AES India will develop,
construct, own and operate the power plant in the State. This will
be one of the largest foreign investments to date in the power sector
of India.
Chief
Minister Dr. Raman Singh was present on the occasion. He termed the
agreement as an important step in the direction of developing Chhattisgarh
as a power hub of the nation. He said Chhattisgarh stands to gain
from the project by purchasing certain percentage of electricity generated
from the project on favourable terms. Dr. Singh said apart from power
Chhattisgarh has immense potential for investment in information technology
and other sectors. He hoped as a result of AES investment many more
foreign companies will come to the State.
