Demolitions put Emergency
tyranny to shame: BJP

An unprecedented, massive demonstration led by Delhi BJP under the leadership of Dr. Harsh Vardhan and Prof. Vijay Kumar Malhotra was organised by Delhi State BJP on March 1 to protest against the demolitions in Delhi. More than 10,000 BJP workers gheraoed the Delhi Legislative Assembly. The barriers put up by police to stop BJP leaders and workers and the tear-gas shells and water cannons used by the Delhi police failed to prevent them from reaching Legislative Assembly building. Lastly the police declared all the leaders and workers to be considered to have been arrested. The processionists had a bulldozer with the slogan ‘Main, Sonia Gandhi Aur Mera Bulldozer Zindabad - Bhar Main Jaye Delhi Ki Janata’ was a part of the procession.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Vijay Kumar Malhotra demanded that the Delhi Government should accept the recommendations of the Committee headed by him and forward it to the Central Government and the Parliament should enact a law so that the properties of the people of Delhi could be saved from demolitions. When DDA is constructing and selling four-storied buildings, why are the people of Delhi not being allowed to construct third floor, he asked

Dr. Harsh Vardhan said that in the first meeting of the Tejendra Khanna Committee for framing policy on demolitions and illegal constructions and making suggestions yesterday, he suggested to a member of the committee that having regard to the humanitarian aspects, the committee should take a decision keeping in mind the interests of Delhi's people. There is terror in Delhi for the last 75 days. The demolitions are going on. The Government is sleeping. He issued a 30 point charge-sheet against Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on the occasion.

Former Governor, Shri Madan Lal Khurana said that unless Delhi is given the status of a full-fledged State, problems of Delhi will not be solved. He demanded that the rights to administer land and police should vest in Delhi Government and all the illegal constructions be regularised. BJP National Secretary Shri Vijay Goel suggested that till the Committee submits its report, the terror of bulldozers should be stopped.

Prof. Jagdish Mukhi regretted that the Delhi Government and the MCD did not plead people’s case in the Court properly and that was the reason why the Court issued strict orders. The Government is deliberately running bulldozers on the houses, shops of the people of Delhi. There is a grave conspiracy behind it. If the Government desires, it can introduce a Bill and frame law in the current session itself and regularise all the illegal constructions thereby removing the sword hanging on the heads of the people of Delhi.

On this occasion Sarva Shri Ram Bhaj, S.S. Bajwa, Pawan Sharma, Alok Kumar, Anita Arya, Lal Behari Tiwari, Shyam Lal Garg, Anil Sharma and others also addressed the gathering. Many Legislators, Councillors, District Presidents including former Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma, former Pradesh BJP President Mange Ram Garg, Manohar Lal Kumar, Subhash Arya, Vishakha Shailani, Md. Imran Ismail, Sunil Vashishtha, Sunil Gupta, Bansi Lal Khurana, Dr. Rajendra Sonkar and senior BJP workers coming from all the corners of Delhi to gherao the Legislative Assembly were present on this occasion.
