Sheila government, a saga of unkept
promises: Harshvardhan
From Our Special Correspondent

The seven-year tenure of Shiela Dikshit Government is a saga of unkept promises. It is responsible for misgovernance, exploitation of people and promotion of corruption, said BJP Delhi State President Dr. Harshvardhan

Dr. Harshvardhan was taking stock of the performance of Sheila government on December 16. He said that the primary needs of any society are water, power, transport, education, health and security and any government which fails to provide these has no right to continue in office.

Reminding the Congress government of its promises during 2003 elections, like: full statehood for Delhi, bifurcation and decentralisation of MCD, commissioning of Sonia Vihar Water Treatment Plant, construction of gas based power plant at Bawana, expansion of Lal Dora area for village development, regularisation of unauthorised colonies and industrial units running in residential areas, rehabilitation of J.J. dwellers, participation of traders' organisations in decisions related to trade, constitution of Delhi Housing Development Board etc., Dr. Harshvardhan charged the Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit with betrayal of the people and said she had gone back on her promises. Not a single drop of water has been supplied from the Sonia Vihar Water Treatment Plant even after spending 800 crores

On the problems of housing, Dr. Harshvardhan pointed out that residents of unauthorised colonies are still suffering, 40% of people living in Delhi have no roof over their heads, J.J. dwellers have not been rehabilitated in spite of High Court orders and the Delhi Housing Development Board has not been constituted.

The Chief Minister and Industry Minister had announced that 23 residential industrial areas shall be regularised and further surveys will be carried out but that work is incomplete. There has been a bungling of Rs.12,500 crores in privatisation of power on which the Chief Minister is avoiding enquiry.

He said Smt. Shiela Dikshit failed to provide water to the people but she has succeeded in providing wine to everyone by starting home delivery of alcohol.

Dr. Harshvardhan alleged that Sheila government had failed to discharge its duties and functions and that is why the High Court had to intervene in many matters of public importance.

Expressing faith in the people of Delhi, Dr. Harshvardhan said that they would vote Congress out of power in the forthcoming MCD elections. He predicted that in the Delhi Assembly elections, Shiela Dikshit Government will meet the same fate as Laloo Yadav in Bihar.
