Press: Shri Yashwant Sinha regarding BJP's CMs conference on 18 August
Press Release
Press statement issued by Shri Yashwant Sinha, MP & Convenor of Policy Formulation Action Group.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to hold a meeting of its Chief Ministers on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Convention Centre, NDMC Parliament street, New Delhi.
The country is passing through an economic crisis of grave proportions. The mood is one of gloom and doom. Prices of essential commodities have generally remained over double digit for three years running. The overall inflation is unbridled, the depreciation of the rupee is worsening the situation and growth is sliding. Even the growth which has taken place in the last eight years has been jobless growth increasing income disparities. There is complete policy paralysis and investor confidence is at its lowest ebb. Rating agencies are constantly threatening to downgrade India's rating. Crony capitalism on the one hand and the return of the license & quota raj on the other completes the picture. The government is in a denial mode and is blaming everybody else except itself.
The congress-led UPA government has made a mockery of the federal structure and is giving non-Congress state governments a step motherly treatment. Discrimination is rampant in the allocation of funds or natural resources. Legislations passed by the State Legislatures are kept pending at the central level at will. There is a long list of pending projects. In Independent India's history centre-state relations have never been worse.
No effective strategy has been evolved by the central government to handle the situation arising out of the failure of monsoon rains and the onset of drought like conditions. While the BJP ruled states continue to show their commitment to good governance, the central government appears to be blocking their path. In this background, the objective of the Chief Ministers meeting is to assess the impact of the economic slow down in their respective states, to discuss the steps taken by them to meet the challenge on the fiscal, developmental, price rise and unemployment fronts and find ways and means of taking the country out of the economic mess.
The day long intensive interaction, will have, besides the Chief Ministers of all the BJP ruled states, the leaders of opposition in states where the BJP is the main opposition party, the leaders of Opposition in both Houses of Parliament, Smt Sushma Swaraj and Shri Arun Jaitley. The President of the party Shri Nitin Gadkari will inaugurate the meet and the Chairman of the NDA Shri L.K. Advani shall deliver the closing address. Shri Yashwant Sinha is the converner of the meet.
All members of the core group of the Party, all general secretaries of the Party, all spokespersons, Shri Prakesh Javedekar the convenor of the Economic Forum of the Party Smt Nirmala Sitharaman and Shri Nalin Kohli, Co-convenors of the Policy Formulation Action Group will participate in the meeting among others.
