Press Statement issued by
BJP National Spokesperson Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman
The Supreme Court, today, has refused to stay the verdict given by the Andhra Pradesh High Court which rejected the 4.5% sub-quota within the quota reserved for the OBC category.
The Congress party has repeatedly mislead the people of India, particularly the minorities by playing the reservation card, whilst all the while knowing that religion-based reservation is not envisaged by the makers of our Constitution. There has been a certain brazenness about the way in which the Congress party led UPA alliance is going about their attempt to fool people.
The media had reported during the UP elections, several Muslim organisations were themselves out to “expose the congress reservation ploy.” Speaking in Hyderabad in September 2011, the Union law minister had said "We may have to make some changes in the law regarding that (giving reservation to Muslims in government jobs and educational institutions). What we want to give is on the lines of what Andhra Pradesh has already done. So, we will follow the Andhra Pradesh model quite closely."
http://articles.economictimes.indiatimes.com/2011-09-18/news/30172106_1_muslims-in-government-jobs-reservation-jobs-and-educational-institutions This matter was already in the Supreme Court having been rejected by the High Court in case pertaining to reservations in Andhra Pradesh.
The nation saw the Union Law Minister went to the extent of daring the Election Commission during the UP Assembly election by his “let the EC hang me” challenge. The Election Commission, a Constitutional body duly pulled him up for misleading the voters with a promise which was not even in the congress party's own manifesto.
Subsequent to this the AP High Court passing a verdict on the 4.5% sub quota issue pulled up the government for its callous approach and even commented that there appears to be no “intelligible considerations.”
The Congress party should stop fooling people in the name of religion based reservations. It has played this game for too long and people have realised that only development for all will help achieve equitable growth for all. Appeasement politics of the congress party stands completely exposed.
The BJP demands that the Congress party apologise to the people of India for the way they have played communal politics in the name of appeasing minorities just so they can win votes and get to power.
