Bharatiya Janata Party National President Shri Amit Shah,addressed a press conference in Hotel New Merian Bhubaneshwar, Odisha today. He discussed several issues on the development work done by the Bharatiya Janata Party government under Shri Narendra Modi at the Centre. He also pointed out the constant failures of BJD government in Odisha. Shri Shah is on a three-day visit to Odisha as part of his 110 day nationwide tour to covering all the states of our country. Earlier in the morning Shri Shah visited famous Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneshwar.

Shri Shah accused the BJD Government of Odisha of hampering the development of the state. Despite a phenomenal rise in central assistance for the development of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik led Biju Janata Dal dispensation have failed to provide us the requisite cooperation in taking our welfare programmes to the grass root, he said. Perhaps, this is the reason why development has been a casualty during 20 years of BJD rule in Odisha despite its rich natural resources. While other states developed significantly during this period. The state Government has miserably failed to electrify every village and every household, Chit-fund with looted crores of people through the ponzi schemes. Those in power were involved in this plunder, he said. Expressing the BJP’s concerns over the slow pace of development in Odisha, Shri Shah said that if BJD Government is unable to develop the state, it has no right to stay in power.

Expressing his dismay at the dilapidating state of health system in Odisha, Shri Shah said that mining scam also hampered growth of the state. Citing Supreme Court’s comments on the state Government, he said that this itself shows that the failures of BJD Government are surfacing everywhere from Shraban Kumar episode to infant’s death and Daan Majhi episode etc. He said that the BJP achieved a huge success in Panchayat Elections held this year with more than 30% people voted the party. Exhorting the Bharatiya Janata Party workers to reach to the people of state to ensure that the party succeeds in achieving its 120+ target in the upcoming Odisha Assembly election, Shri Shah said that he was hopeful that the party will achieve this goal through its programmes.

Shri Shah pointed out that no government at the centre assisted the development of Odisha after independence, the way what Modi Government did in three years. In 13th Finance commission under Manmohan Singh led UPA, share of Odisha in central taxes was merely Rs. 68,119 crore. Whereas the Modi Government has hiked it to 1,84070 crore in the 14th Finance Commission, which is three times more than what the previous regime sanctioned, the party president informed.

Shri Shah said that Grant in aid to Odisha has also been increased to Rs. 13720 crore from Rs.7,496 crore. Whereas the Relief Fund has been hiked from Rs.1600 crore to Rs 3000 crore, Shri Shah said. Allocation of Local Bodies Grant has been increased five-fold from Rs. 2248 crore to Rs. 10,638 crore, the BJP President stated. An aggregate sum of Rs. 21,15,10 crore has been allocated to the resource rich state by the Modi Government in whereas under Congress lead UPA Government it was merely Rs. 79,000 crore, Shri Shah said adding that overall there has been a total increase of Rs.1,32,024 crore in the central assistance to Odisha.

Elaborating on how Shri Narendra Modi led Bharatiya Janata Party government at the centre has undertaken several schemes for the development and welfare of Odisha and its people, the party President said that the central Government has invested Rs.40,000 crore separately. The Modi Government has also allocated Rs.1,37,816 crore under different projects in Odisha, Shri Shah stated. Expressing hope that E-tendering of mines will also ensure an additional earning of Rs.73,000 crore to the state, the BJP President said under Mudra scheme a loan to the tune of Rs.16,000 crore has been sanctioned to youth of Odisha.

Drawing parallels between 10 years of UPA rule and three years of BJP Government at the centre, the National BJP President said railway in 2009-10 budget had allocated just Rs.838 crore, while in the Modi Government made a budgetary allocation of Rs. 5102 crore in 2017-18 to different Railway projects in Odisha. Shri Shah said that 279 km long Khurd- Balangir rail line is an example of our commitment to the development. Khurda-Nayagarh section has been made functional, he said.

Citing phenomenal recovery in construction of National-Highways under the Modi Government, Shri Shah said that Odisha had only 4550 km National Highways until 2014, whereas, our Government has decided to construct 4800 km new Roads, UPA Government did very little in this sector. Shri Shah said that the BJP government at the Centre has identified 6 National Waterways to be developed and Rs. 2000 crore has been allocated to this project. The BJP President informed that the Modi government has boosted up the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and Rs. 7000 crore has been allocated in 2017-18 to this scheme. Government has decided to construct 20,000 km rural roads.

Shri Shah said that the Petroleum ministry alone has invested Rs. 38,000 in Odisha and projects worth Rs. 1 Lakh crore are underway in the state. An Agri-based ethanol refinery in western district Bargarh is underway which will benefit 13 districts of Odisha, the BJP President stated. This apart, renovation of a fertilizer plant in Talcher is also underway at the cost of Rs. 8,000 crore, Shri Shah said adding that this plant will produce 13 Lakh ton Urea for Odisha farmers.

Terming Ujjwala Scheme as a major welfare initiative, the BJP President said that the number of LPG consumers in Odisha have increased exponentially from 23 Lakh to 49 Lakh. A total of 15.86 Lakh people have been given LPG connections under Ujjwala Scheme, he said. Describing Rural electrification programme undertaken by the Modi Government, the National President said out of 3474 villages 2594 villages have been electrified in the state. A separate allocation of Rs. 1083 crore has also been made under IDPS scheme while the Coal Ministry has auctioned 12 mines, Shri Shah said.

A Bauxite based alumina steam refinery has been sanctioned in Damanjodi-Koraput while NALCO has undertaken the development of sacred Puri temple, he informed. He said that a sum of Rs. 600 crore has been sanctioned for uplifting the medical facilities at two medical colleges in the state, while the renovation in three other medical Colleges is undergoing, Shri Shah said, adding that the central government has allocated a huge sum of Rs. 394994 for Odisha in the last three year.

Reiterating the party's support to the 60 year old demand for giving constitutional status to the OBC Commission, Shri Shah alleged that no efforts were being undertaken in this direction until the Modi Government tabled a bill pertaining to this in the Parliament. However, Congress party did not allow it to pass in the Rajya Sabha, Shri Shah said. Since Kaka Saheb Kalelkar Commission in 1955 to 2017, Congress kept lingering this demand. Congress Party committed the sin of sabotaging the passage of the bill. But on behalf of Bhartiya Janta Party I want to assure the people of the country that this bill will be passed in both the Houses. The Modi Government is committed to give constitutional status to OBC commission.

He said that in three years of Bharatiya Janata Party Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, India has become the fastest growing economy in the world. Some quarters have even registered growth rate faster than the China. The Prime Minister has provided India a corruption free, transparent and decisive government. Shri Narendra Modi had made it clear while taking oath of his office as Prime Minister that his government would be dedicated to the welfare of the villages, poor, Dalits, Backward and Tribals of the country and the Government has been working for this purpose for three years. Recalling 10 years of chaotic UPA rule the BJP president said that under Sonia Gandhi led Congress government, the economy was plummeting, inflation was skyrocketing. Shri Narendra Modi had made it clear by taking oath of office as Prime Minister that his government would be dedicated to the welfare of the villages, poor, Dalits, backward and Tribals of the country and the government has been working for fulfilling this goal for three years.

By launching 104 satellites together in space, India has emerged as a major space power, he said while emphasizing that through the Ujjwala scheme, gas cylinders have been transported to the homes of about 2.75 crore poor women in the country. The BJP president said around 91 lakh new tax payers have been registered with tax authorities which is a big achievement. The Modi Government has resolved a decade old issue pertaining to OROP with Rs. 8,500 crore being spent annually towards retired jawans. The issue was pending for 40 years, but our government executed the scheme within a year and benefitted the thousands of retired soldiers, the BJP President stated.He said that with the global recognition of Yoga, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi did a great service in empowering Indian culture.

He said that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi gave India a new recognition adding that government has been working at fast pace to achieve the goal of doubling the income of the farmers by 2022 through schemes such as Prime Minister Crop Insurance, Soil Health Cards, Neem Coated Urea, Irrigation Scheme and e-Mandi. Out 19 thousand villages with no electricity, even after 70 years of independence, 13500 villages have been electrified and rest would be electrified till 2018.

Terming the GST a celestial concept, Shri Shah said that the Government under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi successfully brought it on the earth. Bringing so many states and so many political parties to a consensus was a herculean task but he did it successfully and with that the dream of 'one nation, one tax' has come true, he said. Shri Shah praised the strict action taken against black money along with the demonetization, benami property law and the cancellation of registration of more than 2 Lakh shell companies. He said that the surgical strike has changed the world view about our country. BJP president said that the government has given major relief to the poor people through creating a vast network of generic medicine shops across the country and slashing the prices of stent apart from knee transplant.
