Press Statement issued by BJP National Spokesperson and MP
Shri Prakash Javadekar

7.83% price rise in one week is a worst blow to common man. What is worse is that despite various policy announcements by government, the situation is going out of land. There is no trend of any improvement. This rise exposes hollowness of steps taken by Congress led UPA government and has heaped further burden on all sections of society.

People are paying heavy price because of utter neglect of government for last 3 years. Government threw food security to the winds. It failed to adopt policy of revenue neutralisation. Its failure to monitor the price movement regularly, has resulted in drifting of the situation.

BJP demands that government should immediately supply enough quantity of rice, wheat, edible oil, pulses and sugar to all families at subsidised rate through PDS as a temporary measure. Announce policy of revenue neutralisation and address the supply side management. slashing of import duties do not bring in goods automatically. Short term relief with long term measures will only bring people out of this crisis.

If government does not act swiftly, anger of people will burst like what we are witnessing in many countries.

BJP will continue its agitation against price rise so as to build up pressure on the govt. It is unfortunate that govt. is taking recourse to blame game and giving flimsy excuses. The continued northward graph of prices are impacting common masses adversely jeoparadising their standard of leaving. Instead of building the consensus government is resorting to petty politicking.
