Statement of Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad
National Spokesperson & MP

Dr. Manmohan Singh, Take The Final Call;
The Country Cannot Afford This Drama Any Further

What is going on for the last one week reinforces once again that Dr. Manmohan Singh is in office as the Prime Minister but lacks the authority and decision making ability which is required for such an exalted office. The entire governance stands paralysed and the worst political theatre is being played in public domain about the conduct of foreign affairs, which is going to seriously affect India’s image in the world. As far as the BJP is concerned, our view is well-known. We are not against good and friendly relations with USA, but the nuclear deal in the present form seriously compromises our security concerns and strategic nuclear deterrent autonomy. However, the important fact remains that whether to conclude or not to conclude the deal finally remains in the realm of the executive decision of the government of India.

Earlier, Dr. Manmohan Singh in a well publicised speech, made in the presence of Smt. Sonia Gandhi during the ‘India’s Summit’, organised by a well-known Newspaper had commented that “the world will not come to an end if the deal is not concluded”. Now, we hear reports about his resignation, which, his Media Advisor is neither confirming nor, denying. This is a copybook case of an indecisive government headed by a Prime Minister, who is unsure of his power, position and authority. It hardly needs emphasis that the office of the Prime Minister cannot be run on the premise of a private arrangement between Dr. Manmohan Singh and Smt. Sonia Gandhi.

This lingering uncertainty is not only nuclear deal centric but is causing havoc with governance and forcing uncalled for misery on common people. The ever increasing inflation at 11.05% has already made the life of more than 80% population of India impoverished. Not only the poor even the income of the middle class is being eaten away by the surging inflation. In fact it is quite probable that the inflation figure would reach 14-15% in coming few months when the indirect and cascading effect of oil price rise will finally get factored into. This continuous misery of the people is the direct result of uncertainty, no decision or, slow decision by the UPA government as reflected in complete mismanagement of food economy and its others micro management.

While, this is going on we see the ugly spectacle of constant quarrelling partners of “the coalition of opportunist” and ego massaging, hypocrisy, double standard of the opportunist Left be it the CPI and the CPM who want to enjoy power without any accountability. The country can hardly afford this drama any further. Dr. Manmohan Singh, take the final call. You have not be able to govern, how long the people will continue to suffer and feel insecure and how long India’s international image continue to suffer amidst this uncertainty? Better quit.
