Press Statement issued by BJP National Spokesperson
Sh. Prakash Javadekar

1. BJP accuses Congress of confounding confusion on the issue of formation of separate state of Telangana and unnecessarily blaming BJP, which is constantly demanding immediate formation of Telangana state. It is not BJP, which is involved in any kind of double speak on this issue but it is the Congress, which has betrayed the people of Telangana and is now indulging in the false blame game.

Congress came to power in Andhra Pradesh along with TRS on the promise of creation of separate state of Telangana after election. The NDA has put in place a procedure to create a separate state out of present state. The state assembly needs to pass a resolution by majority, which is ratified by the Parliament by passing necessary constitution amendment. The states of Chhatisgarh, Jharkhand and Uttrakhand were created by adopting this procedure without any bloodbath. Congress never wanted to create the state of Telangana and therefore it started pulling back its feet after the elections. Instead of bringing resolution in state assembly it appointed "Mukherjee committee" just to buy time. It was not a constitutional committee or it has no legal sanctity.

The talk of second SRC is also irrelevant, as the first SRC has recommended a separate state of Telangana. There is no need of any committee or commission now. BJP on its part has passed a resolution in National Executive for immediate formation of separate state of Telangana. BJP leader Sh. L.K. Advani and Party President Sh. Rajnath Singh have publicly announced party support for government resolution in the Parliament. But Congress never brought the resolution before the house.

BJP demands immediate formation of state of Telangana and party's unequivocal support if government brings such a resolution.

2. BJP condemns Congress led UPA government for creating LPG shortages deliberately. Government advertisements stating that the LPG shortages are due to rising demand in face of winter season, is yet another desperate attempt to fool the people. How then government explains the shortages in the southern states, where there is no cold wave? The fact is that government has allowed oil companies to curtail their LPG production and supplies to bring down their losses. Further government has failed on its promise to augment imports to match the demand. A policy decision of the Congress government that request for LPG refills be accepted only after 21 days from previous delivery is the bone of contention.

BJP will expose government's complicity in LPG shortages in and outside the Parliament.
