Statement by BJP National President
Shri Rajnath Singh on ethnic strife in Assam

I welcome the recommendation of CBI inquiry into the violent and tragic incidents of November 24 in which more than a dozen innocent people lost their lives. The CBI inquiry into the incident should be given a time bound schedule so that the people directly or indirectly involved in the violence should be booked as early as possible. These incidents in Assam were not only inhuman and brutal but also outrageous.

I express my concern over the alarming situation in Assam. The present explosive situation in the State could be used by miscreants to reignite violence. There is an urgent need to defuse the tension and resentment among various ethnic groups.

The Congress led governments at the Centre and the State had miserably failed in preventing the gory violence of November 24. Now it is their last chance to address the grievances of various ethnic groups in Assam. It should take certain concrete steps to establish a harmonious atmosphere and prevent the State from getting caught into an inferno of ethnic violence.

I appeal to people belonging to different ethnic groups in Assam to maintain peace and harmony in the State.

Headquarter Incharge
