Statement by Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee congratulates the people and governments of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh for signing the memorandum of understanding on linking the rivers Ken and Betwa. He extends special appreciation for the Hon'ble Chief Ministers Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav and Shri Babu Lal Gaur for this bold, historic initiative, set to change the water management paradigm in our country. The Ken-Betwa link will help the people of Bundelkhand region. It will augment irrigation, while solving the drinking water problem of this dry region. Shri Vajpayee adds that it would be prudent to prepare the detailed project report with abundant caution, ensuring minimum human displacement and forest submergence. Shri Vajpayee thanks the Government of India and Hon'ble Prime Minister for facilitating this agreement. He hopes that the Government of India would come forward to motivate other states for linking other major rivers. |
