- Today is a day of reflection and contemplation where the nation needs to assess its progress over the last 60 years.
- While the nation has notched many achievements which are worth noting, it is equally a matter of concern that the country has not been able to match the same rate of progress with many other nations that also attained independence at the same time as India . Shri Rajnath Singh specifically mentioned the achievements of Israel as a small nation and China as a large nation.
- The BJP President said that the internal security condition of the country was one of concern. He recalled the sacrifices of the freedom fighters who enabled the nation achieve independence. He also highlighted the role of the brave soldiers of our armed forces who laid down their lives during the various wars for protecting the country’s independence. Finally he thanked the security forces who are battling various extremist and terrorist forces in many parts of the country.
- Shri Rajnath Singh said that the country would be forever indebted to all of them for the supreme sacrifices that they made for achieving and preserving our independence. However, if it was the strength of their resolve and in their arms that defeated our enemies, today the nation is being threatened by the increasing resolve and strength of terrorists and extremists.
- The BJP President said that the biggest challenge today before independent India is on two fronts. Firstly, internal security is a matter of grave concern, and secondly we need to protect the country’s unique cultural ethos and heritage. Our society needs to be aware and alert in conclusively defeating all forces that seek to threaten our cultural identity and internal security.
- Shri Rajnath Singh said that he is confident that the country will make great strides and India will establish its identity in the world as an emerging economic power but with strong cultural roots.
