Press Statement of Sh Rajnath Singh,
Dimapur Nagaland on Saturday, August 4, 2007

Sh Rajnath Singh, National President BJP, while addressing a Press Conference at Dimapur welcomed the Peace process and extension of the ceasefire and said that Central government should seize this initiative and give impetus to the peace process as it happened during the NDA government led by Sh Atal Behari Vajpayee. It is important that the Central Government takes all sections of Naga society into confidence, at the same time all factions of underground should also be involved in the wider arena of peace process.

Sh Rajnath Singh said that Nagaland has a special place and status for BJP as Nagaland has given BJP its first government in North East. BJP has cherished this support from the people of Nagaland and wishes to receive the same love and support in the coming 2008 assembly election. BJP is credited of providing a stable Government in Nagaland after a long gap. BJP’s slogan in 2003 elections was 3Ps – Peace, Progress and Prosperity. We are happy that because of BJP’s constructive support Peace and Progress has happened and therefore we seek from people of Nagaland a better positive mandate so that we can also deliver Prosperity. He further added that BJP in Nagaland will be a major party in the coming elections and will play an important role in the government formation. Sh Rajnath Singh said that BJP is confident of forming the government at Center in 2009 and therefore will be in a position to provide large packages of development funds for Nagaland in areas such as roads, electricity, education, health and agriculture. Sh Rajnath Singh said that he being a farmer has a special attention for the farmers of Nagaland and would ensure that better quality and timely delivery of certified seeds, creation of cold storage facilities and warehousing is brought in the next 5 years once voted to power. He criticized the Congress led Central Government of not pushing Kissan credit cards for Nagaland farmers, a scheme he had introduced as Agriculture Minister during NDA government.

Congress has a policy of misleading citizens for their own political benefits by making empty promises. BJP as a party has a policy to fulfill what they promise. When Sh Atal Behari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister of India and visited Nagaland in 2003 he announced a package of Rs 1052 crores for development in the area of roads, employment of 25000 youths and so forth apart from Rs 365 crores to wipe out once for all State’s deficit. Unfortunately when the Congress led government came in 2004 they purposely forgot to fulfill and delivered the package given by Sh Vajpayee .

Sh Rajnath Singh questioned the Prime Minister and Planning Commission’s move to select backward 90 districts on the basis of religion and provide development funds. Selection of districts should be on the basis of their backwardness and not religion. However the Congress led Central government has gone ahead against the spirit of the Constitution of India and selected Muslim populated districts and once again proved their Muslim appeasement policy.. Sh Ranjath Singh made an appeal to the citizens of Nagaland to be careful of Congress divide and rule policy and not be disillusioned by their campaign of secularism versus commulinism. BJP believes in equality for all and appeasement of none.

Sh Rajnath Singh cautioned the people of Nagaland to be alert against the influx of Bangladeshi infiltrators a subject which Congress Party has mastered in Assam, so as to change the demographic nature of the state for their own narrow political gains. BJP when voted to power will ensure that such infiltrators are identified and deported back to Bangladesh.
