Points made by Shri M Venkaiah Naidu, former President, BJP
on the occasion of 117th birth anniversary of Dr B.R. Ambedkar

The BJP would oppose the communal politics unleashed by the Congress party and its allies in UPA government at the Center. They are adopting divisive politics and the Congress having failed on all the fronts is engaged in communal politics.

The Congress Party has become so ideologically bankrupt and so politically pervert today that it is willing to mortgage the nation’s unity and integrity for its own narrow and short-term political interests. This is a retrograde move which, if not immediately reversed, will sow the poisonous seed for the growth of a new communal movement inspired by the Two-Nation Theory that led to the tragic partition of our Motherland in 1947.

The Congress party’s green signal to the policy of communal reservations is the inevitable outcome of its pseudo-secular mindset and its complete surrender to the compromises and compulsions inherent in the politics of the minorityism. It has shown that the Congress is willing to sacrifice the long-term interest of the Nation and abandon its own moorings in the national movement for the sake of re-establishing its hold on the minority vote-bank.

The Constitutional framers were opposed to this idea of providing reservations based on religion and also extending the benefits of reservations to religious converts. But the Congress and its allies are resorting to anti-Constitutional measures by providing reservations on religion basis. The Congress is attempting to divide the nation by providing religion based reservations.

Minority educational institutions have been excluded from the purview of new reservation policy for Backward Classes. As a result, existing reservations for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes stand removed from the minority institution.

Why the deserving candidates from these depressed sections are deprived of reservations in minority institutions? The Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes should be provided constitutionally guaranteed reservations even in the minority educational institutions.

Why the Congress party is against providing SC and ST reservations in Minority run institutions? There is no logic behind denying reservations to SC and ST in minority institutions. The moment BJP comes back to power, we will amend the Constitution, if necessary, and provide reservations for SC, ST and OBC students even in minority run educational institutions.

The Bharatiya Janata Party opposes the move of providing reservations for religious converts tooth and nail. It is a move to enlarge Scheduled Caste category to include Muslims and Christians in employment, which would be detrimental to the interest of the real Scheduled Castes. The BJP believes that such a move will ruin social harmony, encourages religious conversions and endangers the national unity.

The government has taken up the argument to justify the move that in the matter of education, caste is alien to Islam and Christianity. But the same government comes out with a contrary argument to enlarge the Scheduled Caste category to include Muslims and Christians in employment. This is nothing but double standard and vote bank politics.

Lack of commitment and sincerity on the part of the Congress are the reasons for the present plight of the SC, ST and OBCs in the country. The Congress always talked for the poor and walked for the rich. Words for poor and deeds for the rich is the hallmark of the Congress misrule. Otherwise, how can the Congress explain and justify the reasons for the prevailing economic disparities in the country and the present plight of the dalits across the country even after fifty years of its rule?

Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar was a messiah of poor and depressed classes and his championing the cause of oppressed class has really cemented national integration. The Congress didn’t recognize the great services by Dr B.R. Ambedkar and took years to confer Bharat Ratna award on the great son of the country.

Lord Rama is an embodiment of Indian culture. People adore Rama as an ideal ruler who provided Welfare State. That is why, Mahatma Gandhi always used to talk of Rama Rajya. The need of the hour is Rama Rajya. The BJP members should carry forward the message of unity and equality preached by Dr Ambedkar and also the Concept of Rama Rajya.

People should be cautious of the vote bank politics of pseudo-secularists who are ought to destroy our culture.
