BJP expresses concern

Expressing concern over resumption of sealing from Wednesday, Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party president Harsh Vardhan on Tuesday held the Congress responsible for it and said the way the amicus curiae appointed by the Supreme Court, Ranjit Kumar, reduced the new Master Plan for Delhi-2021 to shreds by stating that it was against town planning, the Constitution and parliamentary law, its future was unclear.

Stating that demolitions might follow soon, Dr. Vardhan said that during the hearing of the public interest litigation filed by the Delhi Pradesh Citizen Council the amicus curiae appointed by the Supreme Court also said that if the new Master Plan was implemented in its present form Delhi would become a chaotic city. Without providing sufficient power, water, parking, transport, sewer and other basic amenities, the haste with which the Congress had sought to implement the new Master Plan, it would pose a serious threat to Delhi, he added.

Claiming that the Congress had implemented the new Master Plan in haste to take political advantage ahead of the MCD elections, the BJP leader said rather than providing relief to the people, it would reduce Delhi to an unplanned city.

He said the manner in which the Congress had declared the residential areas commercial without duly considering the issue and also increased the floor area ratio of entire plots, there was now a greater threat of even the planned areas witnessing exunplanned development.

Dr. Vardhan demanded that after declaring the present constructions legal the Government should ensure that there no more illegal constructions in future. "In the areas in which illegal construction are done with the connivance of the Govt. agencies and the police in future, the responsibility and accountability of the officers should be fixed and they should be penalised,'' he said.
