| BJP demands Governor's rule in J&K To steer the sensitive State of Jammu & Kashmir out of the impending political crisis triggered by the Congress-PDP spat over the PDP demand for troop cut in Kashmir valley, State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday prescribed a healthy formula by urging State Governor Lt-Gen (Retd) SK Sinha to invoke Article 92 of the J&K Constitution of 1957 by imposing Governor's rule in the State thus ending the long-drawn political stalemate. Article 92 of the J&K Constitution is equivalent to Article 356 of the Indian Constitution, which provides for President's Rule in States under certain conditions. A five-member delegation of BJP leaders, led by State BJP chief Ashok Khajuria, on Tuesday visited Raj Bhawan and informed the Governor that the ongoing power tussle between the coalition partners was adversely affecting governance and threatening total breakdown of the constitutional machinery in the State. "We expressed deep concern over the near breakdown of the constitutional machinery in the State highlighting the fact that an unending tug of war between the embittered coalition partners, Congress and PDP, in the State has completely paralysed the State administration machinery and was gradually pushing the sensitive State towards total constitutional breakdown," a senior BJP leader who was part of the delegation told The Pioneer. "The alliance partners are behaving like opposition and under the circumstances governance has hit hard," the BJP leaders informed State Governor during their meeting. "The existing coalition has lost mandate of the people and power hungry alliance partners are fighting with each other having scant regard for governance. We urged the Governor to call fresh Assembly elections in order to seek peoples mandate," the BJP leader said. |
