Preserve Nepal's religious, cultural identity :
BJP tells Madhav

The BJP on Thursday asked Nepal to take steps in maintaining its religious and cultural identity stating it was the very "foundation" of relationship between the two countries.

During a meeting with Communist Party of Nepal (UML) general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal in New Delhi, BJP president Rajnath Singh said Nepal should take "proactive step" in preserving the religious identity of Hindu and Buddhist heritage revered by the millions across the world.

The Leftist leader from the Himalayan kingdom had called on Singh at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi.

Madhav apprised Singh about existing socio-political and economic conditions in the country and expressed appreciation of support from the political parties, including BJP, for supporting democratic movement in Nepal.

Singh also voiced concern over the growing influence of the armed Maoists in various parts of Nepal, which, he said was undermining the democratic process and values.

The Communist leader conceded that the armed conflict had no place in the democracy and said his own party had suffered casualties at the hands of Maoists.

The BJP president also sought assurance from Madhav that his country did not become a breeding ground for Pakistan's ISI activities and place for anti-India campaign.

The two leaders also exchanged views on problem of Madhesis.
