Rajnath for N-deal status report

GUWAHATI, July 19: The BJP president, Mr Rajnath Singh, demanded a statement from the UPA government in Parliament about the latest status of the Indo-US nuclear deal. “This Indo-US nuclear deal will freeze our sovereign right to develop and decide on credible nuclear deterrent. That is why two former chairmen of the Atomic Energy Commi-ssion have termed the deal as amounting to giving away the sovereignty of India,” he said. “India must insist that special waivers as granted to China in its nuclear deal with the USA should be given to it. Otherwise, the Centre should think again on the deal taking Parliament into confidence,” he said.

The BJP demanded that the USA should be told firmly that a nuclear deal with India and arming Pakistan cannot go simultaneously.” “India should campaign for a UN Security Council investi-gation into the allegation of black marketing of nuclear weapon techn-ology from Pakistan to some rogue countries in the interests of global peace,” he said. BJP president Mr Rajnath Singh today said that the government should launch diplomatic campaign to create consensus among global community to pressurise Bangladesh. “I have information that more that 25,000 youth are undergoing training in that country,” the BJP president said.

He demanded that vigil be mounted along the border with Bangladesh since fundamentalist elements had been using the frontier to enter the country from Bangladesh. “There is no point talking to both Bangladesh and Pakistan unless they commit to stop cross-border terrorism,” Mr Singh said demanding a global watch on Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence.

“The ISI should be put under international surveillance because all terror attacks on India are sponsored and funded by the agency. It is either in league or has links with anti-India terrorists based in Bangladesh, terrorists from the Northeast, Maoists of Nepal and Naxalites of India,” the BJP leader said.

“There is no doubt that ISI promotes global terrorism. Centre must launch a campaign to mount pressure on the UN Security Council to get the agency branded as a global terrorist organisation,” Mr Singh said. He said that ‘‘policy of appeasement’’ had failed the Centre to take steps against fundamentalists.

Police today said no evidence was found on the Muslim cleric arrested in Dibrugarh for possession of cocaine to prove that he was linked to the Simi, reports PTI.
In New Delhi, the BJP today accused the Congress of “systematically suppressing true information” about the “disappearance” of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and demanded that the Centre give an explanation on why it rejected the findings of the Justice Muk-herjee Commission which said Netaji had not died in a plane crash.

Kandahar episode

About Mr Jaswant Singh’s unreleased book detailing the Kandahar episode, the BJP today said the author had clarified that the then Cabinet had rejected the terrorists’ demand for $200 million for the release of passengers of the hijacked Indian Airlines aircraft.
