BJP too slams Punchhi panel

THE appointment of the M M Punchhi Commission has snowballed into a major controversy with both the ruling side as well as the Opposition attacking the terms of reference of the panel. A day after the CPM said the government violated convention by not consulting states, the BJP on Sunday said it was part of the UPA government’s “minority appeasement” policy.

BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu, who maintained that the Congress-led government was trying to use the Punchhi Commission report to meddle into the law and order jurisdiction of the states, said such a measure would be disastrous for the federal structure of the country.
