PM's Rahul eulogy is an insult to democracy: BJP

The BJP has criticised Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for projecting Rahul Gandhi as "future of Uttar Pradesh".

"The Prime Minister has not only once again shown his utter irresoluteness by this eulogy of Rahul, he has also insulted democracy in which it is up to people to decide who their future should be," senior BJP leader VK Malhotra said.

Malhotra also accused the Prime Minister of attempting to impose one family on the people of the State.

"On the one hand, the Prime Minister is virtually out to force the people to accept somebody as their leader, on the other this young man (Rahul) is out to insult all freedom fighters by crediting his family alone with the country's independence," Malhotra said.

He alleged that Rahul had shown disrespect to Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and other leaders of the freedom movement.

Malhotra also flayed him for attributing the creation of Bangladesh to the Gandhi family. "We would like to remind this young fellow that it was during the rule of the same family that agreements were signed with Pakistan to give back everything that our forces had won in that conflict," he said.
