| Prayer at Kamakhya temple for Mahajan's recovery Guwahati: The State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday offered special prayers at the Kamakhya temple here for speedy recovery of party general secretary Pramod Mahajan. The prayer was attended by senior party leaders, including among others, State president Indramoni Bora and the former Union Minister Bijoya Chakrabarty. Immediately after the prayer Mr. Bora drove straight to the airport on way to Mumbai to join other State leaders such as V. Satish, Narayan Barkotoki and Rajen Gohain. The news of attack on Mr. Mahajan by his brother, Pravin Mahajan, shocked the rank and file of the party as Mr. Mahajan is in-charge of the party for Assembly polls in the State and the key strategist. Mr. Satish, who is in-charge of party's affairs in northeastern States, left for Mumbai on Saturday immediately after he got the news. Apart from the special prayer at the Kamakhya temple, various district units of the party also organised prayer meeting for speedy recovery of the critically ill leader now battling for his life at the Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai. Mr. Mahajan took part in a celebration of Rongali Bihu with all the 125 candidates of the party for the Assembly polls and other party leaders and cadres in the city on April 16 and had left the city the same day. |
